jarad...how can one forgive that?how? I dunno I just wonder... I believe that once before they (those who did the crimes) were common people, but why they turn into such creatures later, i dont really know. Becuse from the document it is quite obvious, that they did it just for their "enjoyment", afterall - if i may say it cynically - why they dont just shot the captives?... without such barbaric torturing? I had no nerves to watch whole document, maybe later. Oh God. When you said you could not finish watching it I remembered there was one I never finished watching out of the same reason. Then I clicked your link and it is the same I had seen before. It was awful and made me feel horrible and also shocked and sad. I think I stopped about halfway in, I just could not any more.

you know i saw many of such things and well you get used to is..i wasnt shocked at all when i saw it since i knew what was coming...i just wanted to see if these creatures had a real justification for what they did..but it is interesting how often the term "they ordered me " or "i had to" is used when they are asked what they did. reminds to the nazi trials in nuremberg.

I watched this before and its ugly. But same things happened to croatian side. When somebody kills your relative, you don't think straight. I presume they used terms "they ordered me " or "i had to" because they were ordinary soilders, with orders from above. And it's easy to force a soilder to say anything in front of camera. (Before somebody jumps on me; I am NOT saying this horrible crimes should happen, people who did this are animals; but they happened on both sides)

Anybody can recommend any more historical movies? Preferably ones that were famous enough in your countries and that I might find online. Something about Cossaks maybe? Or anything from the old times I could watch till I get to see 1612. Thanks!

Krzy¿acy. I think it was translated into English as Teutonic Kights. It's about Grunwald battle, very good. There is Taras Bulba, a Hollywood movie, but that ain't too good... There are a few Ukrainian movies, like this one: www.umka.com/eng/catalogue/historical/zakhar-berkut-video-2cd.html Zakhar Berkut. There is of course Alexander Nevsky and Ivan Grozny... Since you like Fantasy, there is Ruslan and Ludmila and Ilya Murometz. Does it have to be medieval?

Wow, that was quick. Thank you. I've been wondering if there were good Ukrainian movies with those topics but could not figure out how to search for them. Out of those you mentioned I've only seen Ivan. And I'll definitely try watch Zakhar Berkut, looks like my type of movie.
A bit fantasy or legend, sure. And does not have to be medieval, I just mostly prefer the periods between paganism and 19th century. Cossaks, husars etc.

"Czarne chmury" (1973) (mini) - The Clouds of War - 10 episodes The first Polish series of the genre "cloak & dagger", describing adventures of Polish noblemen, set at the background of 17th century Poland. Great role by Leonard Pietraszak as colonel Dowgird. I remember being a young kid and watching this series on TV breathlessly. In my opinion it has it all : intrigues, history, great costumes and of course love&war. Over the years, though, I forgot all about it. Until recently I came across the whole series in a DVD-box. I bought it and watched it, concluding that I find it still great. I can recommend it to all, certainly if you enjoy other Polish productions like Potop (The Deluge), Krzyzacy (Black Cross ) and Pan Wolodyjowski (Colonel Wolodyjowski). If you are interested just give me a sign It's very long, about 500 minutes of watching and includes 5 DVD. It costs 80 zlotys so more less 15 pounds or 40$. It is also available elsewhere

So now that 1612 is out (thanks daver for pointing it out), anyone knows where to get English subtitles? I've looked on google, all in vain so far.

I've got the same problem with Katyn, so if anyone knows where are proper subtitles, please do share.

"Czterej Pancerni i Pies" (1966)My favorite Polish series about four soldiers and their very smart dog who man a tank throughout the Second World War in a tank brigade. Very interesting series, I recommend to anyone who enjoys watching WWII films. quote] It was very popular in Russia, too.

Tikhy Don, after Sholokhov's novel. There's actually a new version now - I haven't seen it but it's probably not as good as the original. It's about the cossaks during the Civil War.
