Because of all the bashing of other nationalities that goes around. You'd think at least some Slavic nations wouldn't get bashed... but Bosnian Muslims, Croats, Macedonians, Ukrainians, get their fair amount of bashing around here. In my opinion it looks very ignorant and stupid to call the French "Frogs", or the Germans "Krauts" or things such as "kill the Albanians" etc... it just makes us look very bad. Not to mention how unprofessional that is. And thirdly, coming from a country where natioanlism drove me away from home, I think that nationalism will never unite us. I'm strongly convinced about this especially when it comes to Serbs, Bos. Muslims and Croats.  |

It's really too bad that he left, his posts were interesting.
I think the problem is that some people aren't willing to listen to other views and hold a constructive dialog. It seems some people have the general attitude of, if you don't agree with me, you're my enemy. That's a little ridiculous, but there are a lot of younger people here and not everyone has developed enough patience yet. I think it would be better if people came to the forum with more of an open mind and willing to at least listed to other points of view, obviously not everyone is going to agree with everyone else but that's just life.
As for nationalism and people getting along. I don't think anyone can force someone to get along, either Slavic people will learn to listen to each other and try to understand one another and constructively work through past problems or they won't. That is what the communists tried to do in Yugoslavia make everyone get along and punish anyone who spoke against this for whatever reason, the result (the wars in the 90s) was a lot worse then people just not getting along.
As for Slavic nations being insulted, it's all part of the same problem of someone not willing to listen to other points of view and resorting to insults. Generally I'd like to think that all the moderators and I have more or less gotten rid of outright insults or bashing. The forum overall is much more civil place then it was earlier when we had a huge flame war every week and people were always using curse word left and right. Really what it comes down to is, do we want to censor ideas on this forum. I'm pretty strongly against that. Obviously something that is just a stupid and pointless insult will be deleted, but if it's an actual idea that is presented in a civil tone, even if it's anti-Slavic, I don't think we should delete it. It's a lot better to disprove this idea with a logical argument, then to just censor things that we don't like.
In any case, if someone has some other ideas, on how to work on this problem, I'm willing to listen.

These vermin are stealing a territory from a nation - Kosovo from Serbia - by murder and terrorism. So why not kill them? Besides, they are not Slavs, they are our enemy.
As far as the site is concerned, it has become a forum to air one's gripes about eachother. Call it venting.
I believe that the Slav v. Slav strife for the past several centuries is too much to overcome in my generation, especially with the recent war in the former Yugoslavia. That is too fresh in everyone's minds.
The site, IMO, has also become a bit too PC and word conscious. What is wrong with terms like s-h-i-t?
C'mon, we hear these things on television!

Haha, so the Albanians are coming to Louisiana to eradicate you and your Christian faith there? Or is it the opposite, the folks from LA are going overseas to destroy someone elses country, faith? You demonstrate the typical thinking of an ignorant American. You know the type such as "God bless this, god bless that, in church every sunday also got 'them' kids in sunday school and hittin' the local Mcdonald's for some breakfast!"

Vucko, f you think the Muslims are your friends, be them Albanian, Chechen, or otherwise, you are delusional!
As I recall, the USA and Europe attacked a Sovereign nation - Serbia - to aid the invading Albanian Muslim dogs. Soon, they will get Kosovo, not the Serbs.
If you are referring to Iraq, yes the USA invaded Iraq, but soon it will be handed over to the Iraqis, not the invaders.
Stop condemning ALL Americans. There are many Slavs here who don't always agree with our fallable leaders.

Nationalism causes intolerance (misguided intolerance is what bothers me though). We have all seen what happened to Yugoslavia and, frankly, I dont think that nationalistic hurrah-patriotism that lead to this bloodshed is worth celebrating. Thatis not to say that nationalism is a bad thing. The problem is that it is a vague set of beliefs that could be easily manipulated by some foreign power or a sneaky politician. I wanted to suggest that we would rename this a Slvic Unity forum, for simple reason that people that come, sometimes assume that they can bash other Slavs or their religions. maybe the name gives them the wrong idea, I dont know. Anyway, I think that upgrade has improved our forum, since now we have a Slavic Unity section. It is the next best thing so I guess I wont complain. |
