Russian Companies Support Bulgarian Patriotic Project
A historical complex from the days of Tsar Simeon the Great will be erected outside Aheloi, a village in Burgas district.
The mega-project is to be dedicated to the Battle of Anchialos, fought out between Bulgaria and Byzantium in 917. Simeon utterly destroyed the Byzantines and annihilated 70,000 enemy troops in what is considered one of the most spectacular victories of the First Bulgarian Empire.
Yesterday the first sod was solemnly turned in the presence of the local authorities. The castle is planned to spread over 22 decares right on the vast field the decisive stage of the battle took place.
Fortification walls will fence the complex, whereby the project envisages the halls to be built in an architectural style, typical of the Middle Ages in Bulgaria.
By premilinary calculations the castle will cost 4,5 M. Financial support has already been secured from large Russian companies, Bulgarian military of the newly ad hoc established 'Vinogroup' cooperation disclosed.
The ambitions of the investors are the project to be completed on the 6th of May 2006, when the 1090th anniversary since the Battle of Anchialos will be celebrated.
