What do you think about all the slavic influence the Romanians have, in culture, religion, and language? Do they qualify as slavs? Or at least partially slavic? Or maybe not slavic at all, merely influenced? What is your personal opinion?

They are nearly 20% Slavic antropologically, and the influence of Slavic culture was great also, nearly 20% of Slav words etc.but of course, they are mostly Daco-Thracians, and Romans but less Romans, than Slavic. Really, Tracians were very close to some of modern Italians, especially antropologicalyy with the South part of Appenines, that is why difficult to say who is descedant of Dacs and which one - from Romans.
One more example - Hungarians are genetically 50% Slavs, but not their mentality. Mentality is the main factor.

They had a period where they purged their language of most of the Slavic words in it.

I think both Romanians and also Hungarians have a pretty big Slavic influence, whether its language, culture and blood. I know a lot of westerners think that Romanians and Hungarians are Slavic as well.
Keep in mind Romania and especially Hungary had sizeable Slavic people living in those lands in medieval times, and also in modern times they have done a lot of forced assimilation on their Slavic populations as well.
When you look at a map of Romania you can see a lot of Slavic sounding names eg Brasov, Craiova etc
But as has been said before mentally they do not think of them selves as slavs and get pretty upset when they do. They even don’t like admitting that the slavs have influenced them and that they have Slavic blood in them.
But I still enjoy Romanian and Hungarian people and culture.

Well, I believe personally that the question is not if we Slavs consider Romanians as Slavs as much as if Romanians consider themselves as Slavs.
It is true that we were influenced by them and that they were influenced by us as it happens between neighbours. However, as said by Dr Dogg before, they get very upset when told that they culture might have been influenced by ours. The 1959-1960s were a period of anti-slavism, a period of de-Stalinization in Romanian history, so I believe that there still remains a certain animosity or at least suspicion towards us.
We should respect that. As long as they remain cordial and do not unite against us with other countries, we should treat them like they treat us without any difference.

I am romanian. My opinion is that romanians are mostly dacians/thracians :65-70% , 20 % slavic, and the rest romans+ cumans, avars (just a few percent). Also south slavians: bulgarians, macedonains, serbs , croats, slovenians, are mostly slavicized thracians (60_65 % slavians , 35-40 % thracians) so very relates to romanians in genetics, and also west slavians :czechs, slovaks have a little romanian genes (see Vlach region in Czech Republic ) but belongs to different linguistic family . We speak a romance (latin) dialect of the ancient latin language, but genetically we are NOT related with italians, just with north italians which are thracians, south italians have greek genes.

I see this thread is very old, i made an account just to speak for the ones that still visit this forum. I am Romanian, yes, our language has a big latin influence, but i don't consider it "one of the latin languages", but i am here mostly to speak about being slavics. I consider myself slavic, i feel slavic, we don't have many things in common to latins, not as culture, not as lifestyle, not as anything. We are mostly dacoslavics (i love this term), the thing is, people here tend to hate Russians (They indeed did many ugly stuff here dozens of years ago, but i usually don't generalise), and that's why they think of Russia every time they hear about Slavic.
I am beginning to be bugged about how some people here really believe they are latins, i am not saying that some Romanians are not latin, but most of us aren't. I just want people to hear me out, i want people to stop considering us latin, we are not, and in my view, it's a pretty insult to call me, and my culture Latin.
