Russian space agency reveals its plan for American astronaut on ISS. RT.com 14 Mar, 2022 09:40 Russian space agency, Roscosmos, announced on Monday that it would fulfill its commitments regarding the International Space Station (ISS) and return an American astronaut to Earth aboard one of its units as scheduled, denying the claims he was going to be left behind in the wake of anti-Russian sanctions imposed over the offensive in Ukraine. “Roscosmos has never given any reason to doubt its reliability as a partner. Safe operations of the staff on the ISS orbit is our top priority. American astronaut Mark Vande Hei will return to Earth on March 30 on board of the Russian ‘Soyuz MS-19’ spacecraft along with Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov,” the space agency press office confirmed. Mark Vande Hei arrived at the space station early last April, which means he was on track to break the American record for the most prolonged stay in space. Hei is scheduled to return to Earth on March 30. On March 5, a video with a watermark of Russian news outlet Ria Novosti was shared by NASA Watch account on Twitter, showing the astronaut left behind on the ISS as Russian cosmonauts say goodbye and depart from the station. This video sparked anxiety about the astronaut’s fate across Western media outlets, especially considering the many statements from the director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, concerning the agency’s work in the context of anti-Russian sanctions. For example, he warned that without Russian maintenance the 500-ton ISS could deorbit and crash-land in India or China, or suggested that without Russian rocket engines the Western astronauts should fly home on “their broomsticks” instead. However, NASA emphasized early in March that the space cooperation between Russia and the US will be maintained, although the US agency was considering “operational flexibility” in dealing with Roscosmos. The American agency is still expecting Vande Hei to come back as scheduled, despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and international sanctions against Russia. Moscow attacked its neighbor in late February, following a seven-year standoff over Ukraine’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, and Russia’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics in Donetsk and Lugansk. The German-and-French-brokered protocols had been designed to regularize the status of those regions within the Ukrainian state.Russia has now demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two republics by force.

Two Russian cosmonauts, one US astronaut return back to Earth. 30 MAR, 13:42 KOROLYOV /Moscow Region/, March 30. /TASS/. The Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft’s capsule carrying cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov and NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei landed in Kazakhstan. Rescue crews have been dispatched to the landing site to help the crew members to get out of the capsule. Dubrov and Vande Hei arrived at the ISS on April 9 last year aboard the Soyuz MS-18 spacecraft, together with cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky. Later, the spacecraft brought back Novitsky and the first-ever feature film crew - actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko, who arrived at the ISS aboard the Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft together with cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov on October 5. On March 15, cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov made history among Russians for the longest flight onboard the ISS. Dubrov beat the record set by Mikhail Korniyenko, who from March 2015 to March 2016 went on a flight lasting 340 days 8 hours 42 minutes and 54 seconds. During his space mission, Dubrov activated two new modules – the Prichal docking and the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module – and conducted four spacewalks for their integration. Russia will return to the moon – Putin.
RT.com 12 Apr, 2022 10:52
Russia must be able to respond to challenges in exploring space, President Vladimir Putin has said, adding that the country is going to continue with its lunar program, among other ventures.
“We’ll resume the lunar program,” Putin asserted as he visited Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far Eastern Amur Region on Tuesday with his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko.
The Russian leader said he was referring to the launch of the Luna-25 robotic lander, which is scheduled to take place at Vostochny on August 22, according to spacecraft developer NPO Lavochkin.
The probe will be tasked with perfecting a soft landing on the lunar surface for future missions and studying the area near the Moon’s south pole. It’s planned to carry 30kg of scientific equipment, including a robotic arm and a drill.
“The generation of creators of the national rocket and space program left us not only a colossal technological foundation, but also the values that we look up to today,” Putin said.
Humanity’s exploration of the Moon began with the Soviet Luna-2 probe back in 1959, but the country hasn’t carried out similar missions for almost five decades.
The draconian sanctions slapped on Russia by the US, EU and a number of other nations over its military assault on Ukraine will not make Moscow give up on space exploration, the president said.
“Despite all the difficulties and attempts to interfere from the outside, we’re definitely going to implement all our plans with consistency and persistence,” he stated.
He also said that Russia and Belarus are going to develop their space infrastructure together, while also tasking Roscosmos with organizing a mission for a Belarusian cosmonaut aboard a Russian spaceship.
Lukashenko promised to send Belarusian workers to help service the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
