Ex-official convicted over 2010 Polish presidential jet crash.

A former head of the Polish Prime Minister’s Office was on Thursday given a 10-month suspended jail term for negligence in planning a 2010 flight that resulted in the death of the country's president and 95 others.
The April 10, 2010 crash of the Polish jet near Smolensk, western Russia, killed then-President Lech Kaczyński and dozens of top military and political figures.
It caused shock, mourning and suspicions among many in Poland over the cause of the disaster.
Tomasz Arabski was the head of the office of Donald Tusk, who was prime minister at the time of the crash. Arabski was accused of failings over the way the presidential flight was organised.
A district court in Warsaw on Thursday handed Arabski a 10-month jail term, suspended for two years, for failing to carry out his duties.
Another former official in the Prime Minister’s Office was handed a sentence of six months, suspended for a year.
Three others accused over the crash – an official from the Prime Minister’s Office and two employees of the Polish embassy in Moscow – were acquitted.
The 2010 crash scarred the national psyche and is still a source of controversy and recrimination in Poland.
The head of a Polish commission reinvestigating the crash said in April that a probe had shown those on board died as a result of an explosion.
Poland’s ruling conservatives have long challenged an official report into the causes of the disaster issued by the Tusk government, which cited a catalogue of errors on the Polish side, while also pointing to errors made by Russian staff at the control tower of Smolensk Military Airport.
A Russian report placed all the blame on the Poles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of 2017 denied Polish suggestions that the 2010 air crash was the result of a Russian conspiracy.
Russia has refused to return the wreckage of the presidential plane to Poland, claiming that it is continuing to investigate the crash.
Moscow slams Polish claims that it planted explosives on late President Kaczynski’s plane as ‘endless fantasy-making’
RT.com 1 Aug, 2020 18:12
Polish allegations that Russia planted TNT aboard the ill-fated plane of former President Lech Kaczynski are a figment of their imagination, Moscow has said, advising Warsaw to listen to the pilots’ communications again.
“Reality has firmly intertwined with fiction, turning it into an endless fantasy-making process,” Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, wrote on Facebook about the freshly released preliminary results of Poland’s second probe into the 2010 tragedy.
This investigation “has become the Yoknapatawpha County of modern Poland,” she said, referring to a fictional territory in Mississippi where the events of most novels by American writer, William Faulkner, took place.
Polish investigators claim that the Tu-154M airliner, carrying 96 people – including Kaczynski and other top Polish officials, crashed near the Russian city of Smolensk on April 10 – 2010 due to a blast on board. The explosives that caused it were allegedly planted on the plane when it was undergoing repairs in Russia, according to the probe, headed by country’s former Defense Minister, Antoni Macierewicz.
Zakharova advised the officials in Warsaw to read or listen the transcript of the communications of the Polish presidential plane’s pilots instead of inventing unsubstantiated accusations against Moscow.
The head the Russian parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee Leonid Slutsky also said that the Polish probe was “nonsense” and just an attempt to “capitalize on Russophobia and score points” with the EU and the US.
Russia’s Investigative Committee pointed out that no traces of explosives had been found in the debris of the ill-fated plane.
Both Russian and Polish investigations in 2011 concluded that the reason for the crash of Kaczynski’s plane was the captain’s reluctance to switch to an alternative airport despite bad weather conditions in Smolensk and mistakes made by the crew during the landing, which was performed in low visibility. That version was backed by the records of the pilots’ communications and other evidence. The Polish report also held Russian air traffic controllers responsible.
But the country decided to launch a new probe into the incident in 2016 after Andrzej Duda became president, seeking to play the anti-Russian card in order to strengthen relations with the US. The investigators went as far as exhuming the bodies of Kaczynski and other victims in order to somehow prove the theory of an explosion aboard, which had even been refuted by a number of experts in Poland.
TsarSamuil: Medicines aren't allowed to be sold on the market without a 15 year trial period, to determine short n long term effects. Sputnik just turned 1 year, others not even that, just months, how can we determine long term effects without the data from long term

TsarSamuil: exposure? Does anyone have a time machine to go 14 years or so into the future n come back n say whether we have good vaccines? Fear makes world abandon its own standards..Besides, vaccines for other illnesses that have been developed for YEARS actually
Aug 24, 2021 11:23:40 GMT -5
TsarSamuil: help. These covid vaccines are literally SHIT, why else do they demand you take 1, 2 n now 3 shots? The problem is also a disease becomes resilient if u administer a weak vaccine that doesn't do the job proper. Allow illness to survive just makes it strong
Aug 24, 2021 11:25:04 GMT -5
TsarSamuil: instead if we go by the book, we should all wait for a really good vaccine to take out the illness for good. Now...we may never get rid of it..but understandably the world economy has a hard time dealing with lock downs, but that is just needless panic
Aug 24, 2021 11:27:06 GMT -5
TsarSamuil: why Swe had fared well with country not being locked down? Because they are cold people, keeping distance was the thing before covid-19 was ever heard of, I hope world doesn't become like that, but some could use a little common sense n change in behavior.

TsarSamuil: It's no wonder covid hits so many Arabs in the country, stupid bastards..

TsarSamuil: If I go to H&M a new shirt, if an Arab wants to buy a pair of pants, not only is his whole family along, his friends, even his freaking grandmother is along n all chattering along in a big dumb group of ignorance..

Boro: Thx for the response. I'm not sure... It seems the vaccines work, at least people aren't dying of Covid. Those who get ill have a problem, it's not "just a flu". Maybe it's from a chinese laboratory, who knows...
Aug 24, 2021 13:46:55 GMT -5
Boro: I agree regarding Arabs..

TsarSamuil: true, vaccines do help somewhat, maybe better than nothing..I hope in 2022 we can come out of this nightmare..

Boro: Horrible times, indeed.
