First private Christmas tree in Bulgaria was decorated by Stefan Stambolov (1854 - 1895) in 1879, Todorka Nedeva, employee of the Regional Museum of History in Veliko Tarnovo, said, speaking for Radio FOCUS – Veliko Tarnovo. Each guest took a toy home after the reception ended as a memento. Despite Stefan Stambolov’s innovation in this respect, home Christmas trees became largely part of the daily life of people in the old Bulgarian capital of Veliko Tarnovo in the 1920s, Todorka Nedeva explained.
