RIA Novosti ^ | 09/ 05/ 2009 MOSCOW, May 9 (RIA Novosti) - A military parade involving over 9,000 personnel, 103 sophisticated tracked and wheeled military vehicles, as well as 69 aircraft and helicopters was launched on Moscow's Red Square at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time (06:00 GMT) on Saturday, when Russia celebrates Victory Day. Victory Day marks the final surrender by Nazi Germany to the U.S.S.R. in WWII, often referred to as the Great Patriotic War in Russia and other states in the former Soviet Union. Moscow's Military District Commander, Col. Gen. Valery Gerasimov, is running the parade. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev addressed the parade, congratulating the veterans and promising "a peaceful future" for Russia. "Any aggression against our citizens will be met with an adequate response, and the future of Russia will be peaceful," he said. The parade, which is accompanied by a large military orchestra of 1,100 musicians, is divided into three parts - a march pass, involving military personnel, followed by sophisticated hardware and a fly over by combat aircraft. Russia's advanced S-400 Triumf air defense systems are displayed for the first time in the parade. This year's event is largely considered a rehearsal for a grandiose military parade in 2010, when Russia celebrates the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The first Victory Parade was held on Red Square on June 24, 1945 on the order of the then-Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Joseph Stalin. Under a new law recently signed by President Medvedev, Victory Day parades involving military hardware are held this year for the first time in 23 Russian cities, rather in Moscow alone. ----------------------------------------- Moscow shows off military muscle. ITV.com Published: Saturday, 9 May 2009, 9:41AM Russia has staged its most spectacular military parade since the collapse of communism. Veterans of the Second World War watched as 9,000 troops marched through Moscow's Red Square to mark Victory Day - the anniversary of the Soviet Union's defeat of Nazi Germany. Russia's showed off its latest military hardware for the first time, including the Triumph air defence system and the Havoc attack helicopter. Nuclear missiles, tanks and rocket launchers also rolled past the Kremlin. The Victory Banner - the red hammer-and-sickle flag hoisted over the Reichstag in Berlin in 1945 - was carried through the square. President Dmitri Medvedev warned against "military adventurism" but said Russia would firmly defend its interests. The speech was seen as thinly-veiled warning to neighbour Georgia, who Russia defeated in a five-day war last August. Mr Medvedev said: "Our victory over fascism is a great example and a great lesson to all nations, the lesson which is still topical today, when again and again there appear the ones indulging in military adventurism. "Those marching today in this square will include the ones who in a real battle proved the high combat readiness of the modern Russian army. "We are confident any aggression against our citizens will be decisively rebuffed, and Russia's future will be peaceful, successful and happy." Russia said it acted to defend its peacekeepers and civilian citizens in Georgia's rebel South Ossetia when Tbilisi tried to retake the region by force. But Russia's ties with Nato plunged to a post-Cold War low after the conflict. The Soviets lost at least 27 million people - most of them civilians - fighting against Nazi Germany and its allies. Some historians say the losses were much higher. Russia warns foes in Soviet-style show of might.

by Stuart Williams – Sat May 9, 8:20 am ET
MOSCOW (AFP) – Russia on Saturday sternly warned its foes not to dare attempt any aggression against the country, as it put on a Soviet-style show of military might in Red Square including nuclear capable missiles.
The display to mark the 64th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War II came amid renewed tensions with Georgia after NATO's decision to hold war games in the Caucasus country infuriated Moscow.
"We are sure that any aggression against our citizens will be given a worthy reply," President Dmitry Medvedev said in a speech in Red Square side-by-side with powerful Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
"The victory over fascism is a great example and a great lesson for all peoples and is still current today when people are again starting military adventures," he added.
Russia's war with Georgia in August over Georgian breakaway regions sent Moscow-NATO ties to their worst level since the Cold War and tensions have flared again over the alliance's decision to go ahead with the exercises.
Moscow, which remains at loggerheads with Georgia's pro-Western President Mikheil Saakashvili, angrily condemned the war games that started this week as a provocation that risk stoking instability in the region.
"Protecting the motherland is our holy duty, it is a moral foundation for all generations," said Medvedev. "The future of Russia will be peaceful, happy and successful."
Before handing over to Medvedev as president last year, Putin resurrected the Soviet practice -- dropped after Communism -- of having missiles and heavy tanks rumbling over the Red Square cobbles in front of Russia's leaders.
Thousands of soldiers and more than 100 items of hardware featured in the Red Square parade, which was matched by similar demonstrations across Russia involving almost 30,000 troops, officials said.
Thousands of soldiers marched past Medvedev and Putin, before dozens of heavy tanks, including the main T-90 battle tank and the Sprut self-propelled anti-tank gun, thundered through Red Square to the sound of martial music.
There was a rare public showing for some of Russia's best known missile systems, including the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missiles, the short range Iskander-M and the medium-range Buk.
As in 2008, Russia proudly showed off a half dozen examples of its nuclear-capable Topol intercontinental ballistic missile which has a range of more than 10,000 kilometres (6,500 miles).
Squadrons of fighter jets also flew over Red Square.
The parade was overseen by Defence Minister Anatoly Serdukov, a civilian ex-furniture salesman implementing a hugely controversial military reform to eliminate Soviet-era structures and prepare the army for modern warfare.
"Greetings comrades! I congratulate you on the 64th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War," Serdukov, dressed in a suit, told the soldiers from an open-top car.
"Hurrah!," shouted the soldiers, creating a huge wave of sound with the traditional Russian victory cry that shook Red Square.
According to the Russian authorities, 8.6 million Soviet soldiers and 27-28 million civilians were killed in the conflict. Officials have repeatedly emphasised that Russia's role in defeating Hitler should never be forgotten.
Moscow has been festooned with official posters with slogans like "May 9, a holiday in our homes and in our hearts" while state television has repeatedly played archive footage of the war.
The restoration of the heavy weaponry to the parade is a throwback to the days when reclusive Soviet leaders would observe the proceedings from the top of Lenin's mausoleum on Red Square.
However as in 2008, Putin and Medvedev avoided embarrassing comparisons with the past by surveying events from a podium rather than the mausoleum, which was largely hidden by a festive hoarding.

Medvedev says Russia will rebuff aggression.
By Michael Stott and Dmitry Solovyov – Sat May 9, 11:32 am ET
MOSCOW (Reuters) – President Dmitry Medvedev warned on Saturday that Russia would "decisively rebuff" aggression, as troops who defeated Georgia in a war last year took part in the annual Victory Day parade.
Medvedev, opening the biggest and most spectacular parade in post-Soviet history, said the lessons of the Soviet Union's World War Two victory were still relevant today -- a clear reference to Russia's five-day war with Georgia last August.
"Our victory over fascism is a great example and a great lesson to all nations, a lesson which is still topical today, when again and again people appear who indulge in military adventurism...," Medvedev said from a dais in front of Lenin's tomb in Red Square.
"Defense of our homeland is our holy duty... We are sure that any aggression against our citizens will be decisively rebuffed," he added. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sat next to Medvedev but did not speak.
Russia says it was forced to defend its peacekeeping troops and citizens in rebel South Ossetia when Tbilisi tried to seize the pro-Moscow region by force. Russia's ties with NATO plunged to a post-Cold War low after the conflict and remain tense.
Underlining Russia's present-day military power, troops drove trucks carrying the giant, nuclear Topol-M missiles and the latest S-400 "Triumph" air defense rockets through Red Square to gasps of admiration from the crowd of officials, veterans, officers and family members.
"It made a superb impression on me," said Maria Glavdivana, an 87-year-old World War Two veteran, her chest festooned with clinking medals. "We are showing the world our masculinity, our strength. We will never ever weaken."
Medvedev paid tribute to those who fought in Georgia, saying, "Those marching today in this square ... will include the ones who in a real battle proved the high combat readiness of the modern Russian army."
Goose-stepping guards of honor, clad in new dark-blue uniforms with crimson chests, golden shoulder-straps and embroidered peaked caps carried the Victory Banner at the start of the parade in Red Square, as 1,000 musicians from 19 military orchestras played stirring marches in bright sunshine.
The banner, a red hammer-and-sickle Soviet flag, was hoisted over the Reichstag building in Berlin, marking the end of what is known here as the 1941-45 Great Patriotic War. It cost around 27 million Soviet lives.
A Soviet victory symbol -- a giant red-and-gold star -- was erected on the facade of the GUM department store, now a luxury shopping arcade, facing the Kremlin.
Veterans, their chests heaving with medals, watched from a grandstand as 9,000 troops from various sections of the Russian armed forces including the Space Forces, Interior Ministry, Air Force, Navy and Federal Security Service paraded.
MILITARY MUSCLE
"This parade proves we have people to defend our motherland," said Pavel Bogodukhov, who fought the Nazis in Stalingrad and marched with the victorious Soviet army to Berlin. "We should feel proud that our armed forces are strong again."
After Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov took the salute, standing in a grey, open-top Soviet Zil limousine, Russia's latest T-90 main battle tanks, armored vehicles, howitzers and cannons rumbled past the red-brick walls of the Kremlin.
Around 70 combat aircraft and helicopters -- over twice as many as last year -- buzzed Red Square at a record low altitude of just 300 meters. The final formation of warplanes dropped a burst of burning stars over the square.
Making its first flight over Red Square was the Mil Mi-28 all-weather, attack helicopter, referred to by NATO as "Havoc."
Other aircraft included the Cold War-era nuclear-capable Tu-160 strategic bomber, the biggest military aircraft built to date which flies patrols close to NATO nations.
Russia celebrates Victory in Europe Day a day later than the rest of the world as it was early morning on May 9, 1945 in Moscow when the Soviet Union and its allies signed the Act of Germany's Military Surrender outside Berlin.

Well the Constitutionalist "rednecks" like the one from the second video are one of the few demographics in America that mostly want the US out of NATO and to stop being world policeman. They are miles away from the neocon Freerepublic. And no, the Democrats could not round them all up. Because Democrats are pussies and the Dont Tread on Me-ers are loaded with guns. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2DMGg_APGI

I find it funny how the Bulgarians are still obsessed over the Turks and Ottomans as if they are still jumping from underneath their beds or something. When in reality Bulgaria is supporting Ottoman type of creations on fellow Orthodox and Slavic countries soil.

Ottoman type creations? I don't think you should use that word so casually and freely for everything, it waters it down, something very american of u to do.
Interesting that you fucking degenerates manage to turn this nice thread into an anti-bulgaria flame war. No wonder almost nobody posts here anymore with u around.

You people are Slavs. Stop whining like Germans, you are Slavs. Germans whine, complain and cry but Slavs stay serene. Serenity is one of our cultural traits. Degermanise, now!
POSTSCRIPTUM Do you know what Germans are? Germans, the homosexual-hegelian marxists. Germans, the weak incompetent tit suckers of the USA Germans are neonazists who listen to Bach. Germans are cultural people who lust for the souls of my family Germans are educated people who after a life time of study can not differentiate between what is right and what is left Germans, the people who invented the idea of a social free market economy Germans, the people who made Hitler into God. German legal theory(rechtlehre) acknowledges that Hitler was accepted as a Divine person whose lips emanated holy decrees to which every one was bound to follow because they were the words of god. I am not inventing this, this is what German legal science has produced. In short, the Germans are our enemies which we must subjugate economically and culturally.

If we were to divide mankind into three groups, the founders of culture, the bearers of culture, the destroyers of culture, only the Aryan could be considered as the representative of the first group. From him originate the foundations and walls of all human creation, and only the outward form and color are determined by the changing traits of character of the various peoples. He provides the mightiest building stones and plans for all human progress and only the execution corresponds to the nature of the varying men and races. In a few decades, for example, the entire east of Asia will possess a culture whose ultimate foundation will be Hellenic spirit and Germanic technology, just as much as in Europe. ( .. ) Japanese development owes its life to Aryan origin, long ago in the gray past foreign influence and foreign spirit awakened the Japanese culture of that time. The best proof of this is furnished by the fact of its subsequent sclerosis and total petrifaction. ( .. ) Historical experience offers countless proofs of this. It shows with terrifying clarity that in every mingling of Aryan blood with that of lower peoples the result was the end of the cultured people. ( .. ) North America, whose population consists in by far the largest part of Germanic elements who mixed but little with the lower colored peoples, shows a different humanity and culture from Central and South America, where the predominantly Latin immigrants often mixed with the aborigines on a large scale. By this one example, we can clearly and distinctly recognize the effect of racial mixture. The Germanic inhabitant of the American continent, who has remained racially pure and unmixed, rose to be master of the continent; he will remain the master as long as he does not fall a victim to defilement of the blood. The result of all racial crossing is therefore in brief always the following: Lowering of the level of the higher race; Physical and intellectual regression and hence the beginning of a slowly but surely progressing sickness. --- To bring about such a development is, then, nothing else but to sin against the will of the eternal creator. And as a sin this act is rewarded. --- ( .. ) If beginning today all further Aryan influence on Japan should stop, assuming that Europe and America should perish, Japan's present rise in science and technology might continue for a short time; but even in a few years the well would dry up, the Japanese special character would gain, but the present culture would freeze and sink back into the slumber from which it was awakened seven decades ago by the wave of Aryan culture. Therefore, just as the present Japanese development owes its life to Aryan origin, long ago in the gray past foreign influence and foreign spirit awakened the Japanese culture of that time. ( .. ) The Aryan is not greatest in his mental qualities as such but in the extent of his willingness to put all his abilities in the service of the community. In him the instinct of self-preservation has reached the noblest form, since he willingly subordinates his own ego to-the life of the community and, if the hour demands, even sacrifices it. ( ! ) For if the Jewish people's instinct of self-preservation is not smaller but larger than that of other peoples, if his intellectual faculties can easily arouse the impression that they are equal to the intellectual gifts of other races, he lacks completely the most essential requirement for a cultured people, the idealistic attitude. To what an extent the whole existence of this people is based on a continuous lie is shown incomparably by the Protocols of the Wise Men of Zion, so infinitely hated by the Jews. They are based on a forgery, the Frankfurter Zeitung moans and screams once every week: the best proof that they are authentic. What many Jews may do unconsciously is here consciously exposed. And that is what matters. It is completely indifferent from what Jewish brain these disclosures originate; the important thing is that with positively terrifying certainty they reveal the nature and activity of the Jewish people and expose their inner contexts as well as their ultimate final aims. The best criticism applied to them, however, is reality. Anyone who examines the historical development of the last hundred years from the standpoint of this book will at once understand the screaming of the Jewish press. For once this book has become the common property of a people, the Jewish menace may be considered as broken. And this nationality he guards as never before. While he seems to overflow with 'enlightenment,' 'progress,' 'freedom,' 'humanity,' etc., he himself practices the severest segregation of his race. To be sure, he sometimes palms off his women on influential Christians, but as a matter of principle he always keeps his male line pure. He poisons the blood of others, but preserves his own. The Jew almost never marries a Christian woman; it is the Christian who marries a Jewess. PS www.hitler.org/writings/Mein_Kampf/mkv1ch11.html

WORST idea EVER...yankees parading on red square??.... ----- Russia invites French, British, US troops to Victory Day parade. Deutsche Presse-Agentur Jan 21, 2010, 14:20 GMT Moscow - Russia plans to invite active duty military personnel from the World War II Allied Powers France, Britain, and the US to march in its May 9 Victory Day parade, the chief of the Russian presidential administration told the Kommersant daily. President Dmitry Medevdev would invite the Allied military to take part in the celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany that ended World War II in Europe, Vladimir Koshin said. The soldiers invited would not be veterans, but active personnel, including 70 members of the French Air Force. It would be the first time that NATO members could participate in the celebration, a Soviet tradition revivified by Russia in 1995. Last May, 9,000 Russian soldiers marched across Red Square in a display of military prowess. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has already said he will attend the celebration, however US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown are still undecided. Around 8.7 million soldiers of the Soviet Union's Red Army lost their lives in the time. Those guys here...

Russia invites general Jaruzelski.
TheNews.Pl 27.03.2010 13:18
The administration of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has invited Poland’s general Wojciech Jaruzelski to the 65th anniversary celebrations of the end of WW2.
Twelve heads of state have already confirmed their presence at the anniversary. Moscow said it was still waiting for responses from Poland, Britain, the USA, the Czech Republic, Greece, Canada and Israel, among others.
General Jaruzelski was also named as one of the nine former heads of state who had fought in World War 2, among them USA’s George Bush senior and France’s Valery Giscard d’Estaing.
In 2005, General Jaruzelski attended the Moscow celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, along with then Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski. (ek)
